For years we’ve heard about Craigslist, the classified ads website that allows people to list just about everything for free, whether it be items for sale, services, community events, or pets that need good loving homes.
How do you list an item on Craigslist? It’s really very simple. Just click on “post to classifieds” and click on the category in which your ad applies. You can add as many as four pictures into your description, so be sure to choose your best shots.
Why list on Craigslist? It is a good source for dealing with local people. If you want someone to fill a job you don’t have to take out an expensive ad, or if you want to sell something to someone you don’t have to pay for shipping.
Let’s say you wanted to list an Epson 9000 printer for sale that was new in package; that would cost at least $10.00 to ship, and that’s putting it lightly, but if you list on Craigslist then the person who wants to buy it just picks it up themselves and all money paid is profit with no overhead.
When is the best time to list on Craigslist? Well, first you must determine if your item or job is seasonal. If you’re listing a sweater then you would not want to list it in July. If you were advertising as a roofer, then you would not want to advertise in January.
What are the risks involved? Well, if you’re working with someone you don’t know or don’t trust then you should be sure to take every possible precaution. One way to minimize risk is to meet in a public place instead of your home or theirs. Another way would be to insist that all payments be made in cash and all jobs come with contracts. This is not a rule; merely an ideal situation.
